WHO ARE S.N.U.G?

The group was founded in late 1991 at the old Jessop Hospital For Women and Children. The group was initially a peer parent support group over a cup of coffee in the waiting room. As the babies were discharged the parents remained in telephone contact and decided to arrange meetings to support each other, socialise and support the work of the staff on the Neonatal Unit and start fundraising.
Three sets of parents and their babies were transfer nearer home to the Northern General Hospital, Special Care unit. Together they decided to form a sister SNUG group at the Northern General Hospital. The founder members of the sister group were Susan and Stan Redhead, Jill Wisneieski, Mr & Mrs Micheal Burgin and Geraldine Dickinson.
The SNUG group at the Northern General Hospital went from strength over the years and the members became familiar faces on the Neonatal Unit. Mrs Burgin and Mrs Redhead opened a SNUG shop and sold baby toiletries, good quality tiny and newborn baby clothes. They also ran a clothes library and for a small fee loaned tiny clothes to grateful families. The SNUG shop expanded and Mrs Burgin and Mrs Redhead acquired a trolly and started to visit the postnatal ward with their wares. All profits were paid into the SNUG fund. The Northern General SNUG members organised fundraising events. Although the initial group has been disbanded SNUGworld, the website is still here to help and support parents and carers.
